What is Will Aid?
Will Aid is an annual UK-wide Will making campaign involving nine leading charities, ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children, Sightsavers, SCIAF (Scotland) and Trocaire (N. Ireland). We have raised over £13,000 to date for the campaign.
How does it work?
Throughout November we will waive our usual will writing fee. Instead, all we ask is for you to make a voluntary donation to Will Aid, which will be distributed amongst the nine worthy charities mentioned above. The suggested donations this year are £100 for a basic single Will and £180 for basic mirror Wills.
Why should I make a Will?
Writing a Will is the only way to be certain that your money and belongings will go to the people and charities you care about. As well as helping your family and friends in the future, writing a Will gives you peace of mind today.
How should I prepare for the appointment?
It is best to have thought about your wishes before you meet with one of our solicitors. A free Will planner can be downloaded from Will Aid’s website at https://www.willaid.org.uk/will-makers/will-planner.
What will happen at my meeting?
One of our solicitors will discuss your wishes and advise you if you have missed anything out and will make sure your Will is legally binding.
They will then draft your Will and send to you for approval. Any changes can be made at this point. Once you are happy with the document, we will ask you to come back to the office to sign it. We will then be able to hold your Will in our strong room for safe-keeping and give you a copy.
What if my Will is complicated?
Will Aid only covers a basic Will which will not involve any Tax planning or setting up of any Trusts. If your Will is more complex, we may need to agree a separate fee for the extra work involved. This can be established at your first meeting when you are discussing your circumstances.
